Komuro Tenman Shrine
Komuro Tenman Shrine stands at the heart of the settlement and enshrines Sugawara no Michizane, the deity of learning. Its founding is unclear, though records tell of a foundation in 947 and a consecration or rebuilding in 1627.
A story says that a flood carried the shrine south to Chikahira in Amaji. After being worshipped there for a time, it was brought back to this original site. A lantern marked “Tenmangu” is said to preserve the memory of that temporary home.
A camphor tree about 35 metres tall and more than 300 years old rises before the worship hall. Designated a natural monument by Ichikawa Town, it and the returned shrine continue to watch over this mountain village.
